Reworks and Redesigns of Four Maps in Update 1.28.1

Commanders!

The battlefields in World of Tanks are constantly evolving. Update 1.28.1 brings changes and adjustments to four maps: Ensk, Airfield, Paris, and Mines.

Expect strategic overhauls, improved flanking routes, and refined engagements across these well-known locations. Let's break down the adjustments and how they'll impact your battles.

Ensk: A Long-Awaited Expansion

The fight for Ensk is changed forever—at least for high-tier battles!

The map has been expanded from 600×600 meters to 1000×1000 meters, offering fresh tactical opportunities and a more dynamic battlefield with improved maneuverability and strategic versatility. While the classic smaller battlefield remains in the game for Tier I–VII vehicles, the expanded Ensk Region version will see battles where the top-tier vehicle is Tier VIII or higher.

Key Adjustments:

  • Increased distance between spawn points. The starting positions have been spread further apart, reducing the risk of taking damage at the beginning of the match and making flanking maneuvers safer.
  • New terrain for medium and light tanks. A new hill (E8-G8, E9–G9) with abandoned buildings serves as the key strategic point in the expanded green area. A small island (E0-G0) located along the river provides opportunities for stealthy maneuvers, although careful navigation is necessary.
  • Reinforced flank defenses. The expanded green direction now includes additional defensive positions at C7 and H7, strategically placed to contain aggressive enemy breakthroughs and provide better control over key engagement zones.
  • Enhanced urban combat. The main engagement zones for heavy tanks have been refined, featuring diverse new positions and wider combat areas to reduce early brawling and better synchronize city fights with other flanks.
  • Better base protection. Defenders now have enhanced defensive positions behind the bases to counter aggressive pushes.

Airfield: Complete Overhaul

Airfield has undergone a major redesign to enhance gameplay fluidity and reduce frustration. Expect battles to feel more varied with improved engagement zones for both medium and heavy tanks in the central and southern areas. Additionally, the red line has been shifted one square lower, effectively increasing the map's playable area.

Key Adjustments:

  • Versatile route for mobile vehicles. The primary path for agile vehicles runs along the F–J lines, now featuring diverse hull-down and side-scraping positions at varying distances, allowing for greater tactical flexibility and strategic engagements.
  • Revamped heavy tank routes. The central C–E line now features two distinct sub-directions: a cave and an adjacent hill.
  • Additional tank destroyer positions. New long-range sniper nests in the corners and at E2 and E9 allow for more controlled base defense and will help deter aggressive attacks.
  • Improved mobility options. Faster vehicles now have more opportunities along the A–B and 5–6 lines.

Paris: Northern Zone Rework

The northern sector of the Paris battlefield has been restructured to provide better opportunities for medium tanks, light tanks, and tank destroyers. New positions have been added for long-range shooting and closer engagements in melee combat, enhancing the tactical depth of battles in the middle part of the northbound area.

Key Adjustments:

Improvements to the stair area (D4–D7). New cover and alternative access points to the upper platform have been added.

Fully reworked fountain area. The center near the fountain has received additional opportunities to take cover and new terrain variations to encourage more dynamic gameplay and diverse engagements.

Intermediate hill cover. The D4 and D7 positions have been refined to improve movement alongside the north direction toward the middle part of the map.

Mines: Minor Balance Enhancements

Mines has received targeted changes to adjust sightlines, improve combat dynamics, and increase engagement opportunities.

It is now more difficult for the southern team to fire from the H1–H2 island toward the central hill. Heavy tanks from the northern team now have a new position at E3, enhancing their ability to contest the water direction and support allied advances.

Key Adjustments:

New cliff ledge position. A new firing angle toward the island at H1–H2, commonly occupied by the southern team, offers the northern team new engagement opportunities.

Reduced southern bush cover. The sniping position at H1–H2 is now less dominant, making it harder to shoot at the main heavy tank battle point near the hill ascent.

All of the map updates aim to enhance balance, improve tactical depth, and create a more engaging combat experience. Jump into battle to test the new layouts yourself, and tell us what you think of them.
