Race to the Sea: Third Campaign's First Stage

Tankers!

The Third Campaign is coming soon to the Clan Wars' Event Map, and Clans will once again fight for unique medals and tanks! As we mentioned in our previous announcement2014 marks 100 years since the beginning of the First World War, also known as The Great War, which lasted from July 28, 1914 to November 11, 1918. It is to this world-changing event that we dedicate the Third Clan Wars Campaign on the Global Map.

Race to the Sea was the name of three consecutive operations conducted by German and Anglo-French armies on the Western Front during the First World War, and as such, is also the name of the First Stage of our Third Campaign.

2. The Main Objective of Race to the Sea

2.1. During the Race to the Sea, a group of convoys will move around the Campaign Map. Clans are to conquer as many provinces with convoys as they can.

  • Unlike the Second Campaign, Clans don't need to hold convoys as long as possible, but seize the largest possible number of convoys

2.2. Convoys will move to the next province every day. On the map, the icons will be displayed indicating the current position of the caravan and location for the following day.

2.3. Clans that own a province with a Convoy (by having a Convoy on a province the Clan owns or by capturing a province with Convoy) will receive a reward of 40,000 Fame Points.

2.4. Repeated possession of the same caravan won’t bring any awards to a Clan. Convoys that were already captured by a Clan will be marked with special icon (See the table above in section 2.2).

2.5. All Convoys are moving simultaneously, and the movements will appear daily at 10:00 PST

2.6. As soon as the Convoy moves to the next province, a Revolt breaks out in the province it will go to the following day.

2.7. If, on the next day, a Convoy should move onto a landing province, the Revolt in this province will not start (the regular landing tournament will decide the province's owner).

2.8. Revolts cannot appear in the province with a Convoy.

2.9. If the province where the Revolt is supposed to begin is under attack, the attacking chips are returned to the reserve of the attacking clans without a cooldown time.

2.10. If an encounter battle was scheduled between the province where the Revolt is to begin and other provinces, the following will occur:

  • The encounter battle is cancelled;
  • All chips on the Revolting province return to the reserve of the appropriate Clan without a freezing time;
  • Chips that have moved from Revolting province to another remain

2.11. If the province where a Revolt should begin, a deferred Revolt was appointed, the following will occur:

  • Deferred Revolt is cancelled;
  • All enemy chips are returned to the appropriate Clan reserve without freezing time;
  • In province usual Revolt begins

2.12. Maximum number of Clans in landing tournament in Revolting provinces is 64.

2.13. If a province with a Convoy is a landing province, its landing tournament follows standard rules.

Race to the Sea: History

Race to the Sea was the name of three consecutive operations conducted by German and Anglo-French armies on the Western Front during the First World War from September 16 to October 15, 1914. The operation’s aim was to attain a mutual bypass of open flanks.

Race to the Sea had three major stages. The first stage was a battle in the Somme and Oise rivers that took place in the second half of September 1914. The second stage was a battle on both sides of the river Scarpa (Sept. 29-Oct.9); the so-called Battle of Arras. The third stage was a battle on the river Lys, the Battle of Lille (Oct. 10-15), the battle on river Isere (Oct. 18-20), and Ypres (Oct. 30-Nov. 15).

Mid-September was when military from the Oise River to the Swiss border began to take position; only the northwestern flanks of the parties involved were open. Unallocated space between Oise River and the North Sea reached 200 km.

From September 16 to September 19, France's 6th and 2nd Armies began their offensive against the right flank of the German 1st Army between the Somme and Oise rivers in the direction of Saint-Quentin -- but instead faced German's 6th Army. The battle continued until September 28 when both sides went on the defense.

Subsequent operations conducted by the French 10th Army from September 29 to October 9 also failed. The operations were meant to bypass the right flank of the German 6th Army near Arras on both banks of the River Scarpe and the British Army on the River Lys. Anglo-French troops were once again faced with the German army, who tried to get around the left flank of the allies. Once more, after much heavy battling, both went on the defensive.

In the final stages of the Race to the Sea, German troops occupied Antwerp on October 9, which was defended by the Belgian Army. They ceded Ostend, Ypres, and joined the Allied forces. After the Race to the Sea, and from October 20 to November 15, the front stabilized, and maneuvers in the West ended. From the Swiss border to the Strait of Dover, a solid front position was established.

In general, Race to the Sea had maneuverable operations characterized with limited forces. Both parties acted vigorously enough, which helped to stabilize the front. To secure the flanks, there was use of covering convergences and infantry formations at the front. Rail and road transport was widely used for moving forces and equipment.
